Carpi's footballing roots stretch back over a century, though the club's modern identity was forged through several reformations that mirror the turbulent economics of small-town Italian football. For decades the Biancorossi knocked around the regional and semi-professional divisions, occasionally flirting with Serie C without ever truly threatening the established order. That all changed in the late 2000s, when shrewd investment and a clear-eyed sporting project began to bear fruit. In 2009 Carpi were promoted from Serie D, and over the next six remarkable seasons they climbed every rung of the Italian pyramid. The 2014-15 campaign delivered the impossible: a Serie B title and a place in Serie A for the first time in the club's history. The Biancorossi won 22 of their 42 matches that season, leaving Frosinone, Bologna and other established names trailing in their wake. The 2015-16 Serie A campaign was a chastening but hugely romantic experience – Carpi played their home matches in Modena's Stadio Alberto Braglia because their own ground was too small to meet top-flight standards. They beat Cagliari, drew with Roma and Milan, and pushed Juventus close, but ultimately relegation came on the final day. Their fierce rivalry with Modena, the storied derby of the textile lands, remains one of the most heartfelt fixtures in the lower leagues. Subsequent years brought financial trouble, restructuring and rebirth, yet the spirit of that fairytale endures every time the club takes to the pitch.

The Biancorossi's incredible ascent was powered not by superstars but by a collection of journeymen, late bloomers and clever recruits who became local legends. The architect of the miracle was coach Fabrizio Castori, the unflappable craftsman who guided Carpi from Serie B obscurity to the top flight, and his successor Giuseppe Sannino who steered them through the brutal Serie A campaign. Goalkeeper Vid Belec became a cult hero with his shot-stopping heroics, while captain Marco Crimi embodied the side's relentless work ethic in midfield. Jerry Mbakogu, the powerful Nigerian forward, scored the goals that kept Carpi competitive against Italy's elite, and Kevin Lasagna emerged at Carpi before earning a big move to Udinese and a call-up to the Italian national team – arguably the club's most famous graduate. Lorenzo Lollo's late free-kick winner against Bari in 2015, the goal that confirmed promotion to Serie A, remains the most replayed moment in club history. Defenders Gabriele Gabbia and Andrea Poli added Serie A-quality steel, while Riccardo Gagliolo's calmness on the ball drew admirers across Italy. Beyond the pitch, club president Claudio Caliumi and his successors deserve mention as architects of the project. Every Carpi jersey from this era carries the fingerprints of these underdog heroes.
